Dear Pinewood Families,
Welcome to term 3! Copies of the previews of the learning that will happen in your child's classroom have been sent home. This is good way for you to keep informed about what is going on at school and how to support your child in their learning. It is also track and field season for students in Grades 4-7. Students will be responsible for attending extra curricular practices in order to be considered for a spot on the track team. We will do our best to place all who try out, but there are limited spaces in some events. To help with planning, click here to view an overview of the practice times.
On Friday, April 28 we will be practicing a full earthquake release at Pinewood. It involves picking up as many students as possible from school during the afternoon using the procedures for an earthquake evacuation. In such an event, students will ONLY be released to PARENTS or people designated as an EMERGENCY RELEASE person. This is different than people listed as emergency contacts which are used in the event of an illness. Please ensure this information is up to date and accurate in PARENT CONNECT. Please click here to view instructions for completing this information. More details of the event will come home in the coming weeks.
The weather is still not terrific. Kids will be spending as much time outside as possible so please ensure they come dressed appropriately. It is also recommeded that kids of all ages keep some extra clothes at school in case of a slip in the mud or a puddle.
At this time of year, the office staff start preparing for the number of students coming to Pinewood for the next school year. If you know of anyone who lives in the Pinewood catchment, or doesn't but wants to come to Pinewood, please encourage them to register as soon as possible. Also, if you know your child will not be returning to Pinewood in the fall, please give the school a call. Another aspect of planning for next year is the placement of students in classes. Our staff know the children and how they are able to navigate the school context and do an excellent job considering many, many factors when determining the best placement of students into new classes. If parents would like to share some thoughts about social/emotional/academic concerns they have for placing their children in classes, please download a Placement Consideration Request form or pick one up from the school office. The input provided may be used to assist in class building. Please have any completed forms returned to the school by Wednesday, May 31.
