Principal’s Message

Dear Pinewood Families,

It is a pleasure and an honour to serve as the Principal of Pinewood Elementary School. We are grateful to be located on the traditional territory of the Tsawwassen and Musqueam First Nations, and of all the Hun’qumi’num people who have been stewards of this beautiful land since time immemorial.  Pinewood is in the Sunshine Woods area of North Delta, right next to the magnificent Watershed Park.  We have a student population of approximately 350 students, offering a regular English K-7 program.  We are fortunate to have the Pinewood Leisure Centre right next door, where the City of Delta offers both out-of-school care and preschool programs.

Pinewood is a dynamic place to work, learn and play. Our staff are student-focused, and continuously work on developing a caring, inclusive learning environment where each child has the opportunity to think, to learn, and to be creative.  We would like all of our students to be connected to our land, and to be active, caring citizens of our community.

At Pinewood Elementary, we believe that learning is best achieved when there is a strong partnership between the home and the school. As a school staff, we strive to plan meaningful learning programs for our students, and we rely on the support of families and our community to help students achieve success. When staff and families are working together to exchange information, and to collaborate in the learning process, our students experience greater success as learners. Pinewood Elementary welcomes families as partners in their children’s learning.

The parent community at Pinewood Elementary is supportive, encouraging, and caring. Our Parent Advisory Council is active and meets regularly. They coordinate hot lunch days, fundraisers, and community events, raising funds for the school to support the numerous initiatives, programs and learning spaces at Pinewood Elementary. Our parent volunteers work tirelessly to provide enhanced learning experiences, opportunities, and resources to our student body.

In closing, I am pleased to be working with the families of the Pinewood community as partners in the learning taking place at our school! Please don’t hesitate to stop by the school and share your thoughts about our school and your hopes for your child’s experience at Pinewood Elementary.

Sincerely,

Tina Doukas

Principal
